🔎 Around Golden: Talking About the One Thing We All Share

Death is a hard topic to talk about. Full stop.

Here at The Golden Goose, I focus on what’s lively: local music, fun events, and civic engagement. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the spaces where community shows up not just to celebrate but to sit together in uncertainty, in curiosity, in grief.

That’s why gatherings like the Death Cafe at Bean Fosters matter. Held monthly in the back corner of the bookstore café, it’s not a support group, and it’s not about recent loss. It’s a space to talk openly about mortality—fears, questions, plans—over coffee and with compassion. The goal? To reduce the anxiety and isolation around death by talking about it, together.

Led by local accountant turned death doula Karen Keeran, these conversations range from the practical to the philosophical: from end-of-life logistics to “What happens when we die?” No agenda. No fixing. Just space to metabolize grief, share stories, and—strangely enough—”bring you alive” according to one participant.

Because if there’s one thing that binds us all, it’s this: we were born, and one day, we won’t be here. Everything in between? That’s where connection lives.

THANKS!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend, and sincerest thank you to everyone who is serving or has served. Until next time! ✨
