You know, I’ve never officially introduced myself. How rude of me! Here I am, waddling into your inbox each morning, honking away with all the latest and greatest from Golden—and yet you may ask… “Who is this stranger danger I’ve invited into my sacred space of Amazon orders, unopened coupons, and unread emails?!”

Let’s fix that.

👋 Hi, I’m Kelsey—the gal behind the Goose (which you likely know if you’ve made it to the end of one of these thangs). I live in Golden, and I’m an MBA student graduating in 30 days and 7 hours (not that I’m counting). I’m also a software engineer…but unrelated to software, I’m building a small creative business for kids—to get them away from screens. (Sidenote: I went to my first Golden Startup Coffee today—10 out of 10 recommend. Why didn’t I go sooner?!)

I’m married to the raddest dude around, who’s clocked thousands of trail miles around town 🏃🏻‍♂️. There’s probably a 97.34% chance he’s run by you (as in literally running) in the last 13 years. And, as you’ve seen already, we have the goodest pup around: Frankie (the intern)! She got her final shots today (thanks, Aspen Ridge Animal Hospital!) so you’ll be seeing her on the trails too. 🎉

I started this newsletter this year as both a creative outlet and a way to bring people together—to help folks find new friends or community, all while supporting Golden’s many awesome businesses. There’s a lot happening in the world right now, and it feels more important than ever to lean into connection, small joys, and helping each other out. That’s why I love featuring volunteer opportunities and great fundraisers. And honestly, I just really enjoy writing this—having fun with it, and not taking it (or myself) too seriously.

And the goose theme? 🪿 That’s just because I love alliteration—and geese are pretty cool. I created a post about it here.

• ⛵️ Mine’s Cardboard Boat Race (4/12 @ 9am) - While E-Days at Mine’s is a celebratory weekend full of fun engineering challenges for students, there’s one event that you shouldn’t miss…the cardboard boat race down Clear Creek. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Spectators are welcome and encouraged!

• 🎨 Fearless Watercolor: A Beginner’s Journey (4/12 @ 9am) - Introduction to the foundational techniques of watercolor painting. Register ➡️ here.

• ⛷️ Melt the Ice Sale at Icelantic Skis (4/12 & 4/13 @ 10am-7pm) - Join for their biggest sale of the year! FREE coffee for first 50 in line on Saturday, FREE beer provided by Denver Beer Co, and live music from 3-5pm.

• 🎨 Art Installation Celebration (4/12 @ 10:30am) - Join the Public Art Commission at New Loveland Mine Park for the unveiling of two new art pieces—plus words from the Mayor, the artist, and more. This is the first of six arty parties this year!

• 🎪 E-Days Carnival (4/12 @ 12-3pm) - Located in D Lot (Elm Street)…”This family-friendly carnival features food trucks, games, and fun for all ages. Kids under 12 get in free; $5 entry for others includes food truck access. • 🧁 Goldmine Cupcakes (4/12) - The store will be celebrating their 10-year anniversary the weekend on Saturday & Sunday. 10% off all cupcake purchases, random giveaways, and a raffle to win gift cards to local restaurants!

• 🥃 State 38 Cocktail Class (4/12 @ 4-5:30pm) - “Join us for an evening under the still and barrels to learn how to create two signature State 38 cocktails.” Get your tickets ➡️ here.

• 📚️ Book Release Party at Over Yonder Brewing (4/12 @ 5pm) - Rachael Wesley’s book release party celebrates her debut of Second Set Chances, a memoir. There will be live music at 6pm as part of the celebration so come join!

• 🎆 Fireworks for Mines E-Days (4/12 @ 9pm) - Best viewed from Mines Lot D (Elm Street), and the public is invited to watch from the campus starting at 8:45pm. This event caps Mines E-Days celebration.

• 💛 Heart of Golden Next Phase Community Meeting (4/15 @ 5:30pm) - “The Heart of Golden project aims to make the Clear Creek Corridor more usable and desirable for residents while providing needed space for Police and City services. This meeting will focus on the East Zone Amenity Plan and Lions Park. “

• 🍺 100th Golden Beer Talk! (4/15 @ 6pm) - “The Beer Talks team recently did a count and realized that April will be our 100th Beer Talk! To celebrate the occasion, we’re departing a bit from our usual format. Instead of one speaker and one topic, we’ve invited several of our past speakers to give us rapid-fire updates on their projects.”

• 🤠 Western on Washington (4/18 @ 5-11pm) - Join for the downtown pub crawl, dancing, live music, a silent auction, a Cowboy Carter Salute at 8pm, and delicious BBQ. It’s a lil bit country and a lil bit rock n’ roll this year! Event takes place at the Buffalo Rose, and tickets start at $55.

• 👒 Kentucky Derby Hat Making at Golden Outpost (4/19 @ 2pm) - “Your ticketed experience includes a derby hat to decorate, decorations, two mint juleps (cocktail or mocktail), light charcuterie snacks, Derby games, a hatmaster to lead the craft and all the supplies needed to craft your derby hat!” Tickets are limited so be sure to get them ➡️ here.

• 🧘 Somatic Breathwork Experience at PranaTonic (4/19 @ 4pm) - “90-minute guided experience combining breath, music, and mindful awareness for healing and self-discovery.”

• ⛑️ Wilderness First Aid for Climbers by Golden Mountain Guides (4/25) - “We identified that climbers face unique challenges when faced with a medical emergency. We often have limited gear, and limited resources. Learn the skills needed to keep yourself and your group safe…Hurry, these spots fill quick!” See a complete list of scheduled courses in the link.

• 🧘 Yoga and Sound Bath by the Creek at The Golden Hotel (4/27 @ 10am) - “We will embark on a 55 minute yoga flow followed by a 20 minute sound bath experience.” Reserve your ticket for $35 ➡️ here.

• 🏃 SOAR 5K Run (4/28 @ 8-10am) - Kids run for FREE, and there will be kids events like a 4H drop-in program and face painting. All proceeds go directly to the Welchester PTA, which helps pay for things like field trips, playground equipment, and community events for Golden’s only Title 1 school.
